Michael Fields plays Vivaldi's lute concerto at Sastamala Gregoriana Festival in Finland, July 2008, accompnied by members of New Trinity Baroque. His instrument is an archlute by Stephen Gottlieb.
Yes, it's what's known in the trade as "baroque pitch" - a generic catch-all term for the fact that there used to be many different pitch standards before the 20th century. This is a semi-tone (half-step) lower than modern pitch, which is about right to VIvaldi's time.
it's really unfortunate... you can't really hear the lute. it's overshadowed by the other instruments due to it's lack of dynamic capability. btw, why is he standing? anyway... beautiful composition! guitar has a louder dynamic range. better with classical guitar
Usually that makes me think they're a bunch of morons, because it never seemed to happen in any kind of venue before the 3 tenors era. But in this case there was a long pause, and you looked so relaxed, it seemed as though you might have intended to do only 1 movement.
